Dave Reardon wrote a nice article on former Navy QB who was just promoted to LT(jg) and made the University of Hawaii roster while juggling a full time Navy Cryptology Warfare Officer position, that of a UH backup QB and a full time grad student without I may add any NIL money. It’s in the Honolulu Star Advertiser 8/30/23 issue.

Gymnastics

Three Mids competed today in Illinois.
As of now, Suradagunta is 6th on Floor Exercises; Drake is 8th on High Bar and McQuillan is 6th on the pommel horse.
They are in Squad E. There is a second session that may change these.
The good guys are coming west to San Jose, CA 24-27 August for the US Championship. Drake is coming for sure. The other two must qualify.
I checked on tickets for the event at SAP Center, home of the San Jose Sharks, and they cost $701 to $1300 USD. I will monitor that.
Go Navy!

New Supe

New supe just dropped ... RADM Yvette Davids '89.

More sad news - Coach Mike Hughes has passed

I only met him a couple of times during the summer of 1999 when my daughter was at the summer rowing camp. She had a great summer and really was energized to stay with rowing in high school. Ultimately resulted in a scholarship to The Ohio State University.

High school football at NCAA venues..... Army throws a flag

Just saw an article in CT Insider that a Connecticut / New York high school all star game was going to be played June 2024 in Michie Stadium. Apparently the organizers (CHSCA) thought they had an agreement with West Point to play the game there. The organizers were looking to use Michie as a draw to attract players. Somebody should have checked with West Point. The press conference announcing the game and venue was this past Wednesday.

According to CT Insider, "Deputy athletic director Dan McCarthy said Friday (after the Wed Press Conference) that there is no deal to play at Michie Stadium and, to his knowledge, NCAA rules might not allow it."

FUBAR for sure..... someone is not being forthright either the organizers, WP or CT Insider. Plus...... is the Army Deputy AD correct in thinking that NCAA rules would forbid a high school all star game from being played? Hasn't Navy hosted High School games in the past? I'm pretty sure that Rutgers hosts high school all star games.

Navy Lacrosse 2023

Figured I'd start the 23 season with a new thread and the first email from Coach Amplo
-------------------------------------

ALCON,

With welcoming the Brigade back earlier this week and classes and practices starting, I
thought it was a great time to check in with an update and make you aware of some key
dates coming up this fall.

Classes started on Monday 22 Aug and we jumped right in to our strength and
conditioning sessions that afternoon with lacrosse individual/skill work starting the
following Wednesday. This segment of training will continue until 26 September, at
which point we will start our fall ball season. We will close out the fall with a scrimmage
at Penn on 29 October where we will play both St. John’s and Penn.

This fall we invite you to participate in the annual Service Selection Roundtable and
attend the Alumni Fall Tailgate. This year’s roundtable will take place on 21 October at
1700 (just after a formal parade) and prior to an intrasquad scrimmage. Like last year,
we will host this event in the Terwilliger Center on the third floor of Ricketts Hall which
allows for viewing of the scrimmage on Rip Miller Field. Cocktails and snacks will be
available! If you are interested in participating in the roundtable, please email Adam
Borcz
at (adamhenryborcz@gmail.com). This event has become a highlight for our team and
we are excited to continue this important tradition. We will close out the weekend by
hosting a tailgate on Saturday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium prior to the
Navy vs. Houston football game.

As always, our doors are open to each of you. Please stop by and visit, come to
practice or check in via phone or email. I am happy to give more robust updates to
those who are interested.

This year is destined to be a very exciting one for us. There is tremendous potential and
energy within this group already. I look forward to updating you in the coming weeks on
how we are progressing.
Best,
Joe
