There is a new Group 3 major - Foreign Area Studies - being offered at USNA. Not a lot of literature about it but apparently there was a lottery for it for the most recent Plebe class due to popularity.
Currently the areas of study are limited to Asia/Pacific and Middle East/North Africa (which align with the newer majors of Chinese and Arabic), but eventually the areas of study will also include Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
This major was the brainchild of Dr. Clementine Fujimura, who earned the 2021 Civilian Faculty Service Excellence Award. (She has one son who is a '20 USMC 2Lt and another who is a current MIDN)

I'm always a fan of USNA expanding its academic major opportunities. I recall when I was applying, USNA's advertised academic majors offered lagged significantly behind USMA and USAFA. There's some kind of shell game going on there because the faculty sizes cannot be appreciably different, but it's always better to offer more diversity when trying to sell 17 year olds.
